    September 3rd

We found out that the five of us are going to be in a national ad campaign for Levi's Jeans. We had the opportunity to do a photo shoot with Nathaniel Welch. He has shot tons of big time musicians and definitely shot some great stuff. Someone mentioned that this could wind up on billboards and in magazines. Life just keeps getting crazier.
J.D.'s birthday -- I didn't know this would be one of my favorite nights at the mansion.
It started like this, MiG and I carried the cake to the dining room and prepared for the madness.  I knew that a 5-foot cake for 5 people was going to end in destruction. It felt so good to release all our tension and fly off the handle.  We had a cake fight, jumped in the pool, showered together, hung out in the hot tub, drank wine and laughed our asses off. Only J.D. could throw such a phenomenal birthday party.
Three more weeks left, and I'm doing the best I can. I appreciate all of the support and want you to know how much it is helping me keep my head on straight and focused on going the distance.

We got our fan selected songs, and I'm psyched to have Foo Fighters "Everlong.”  We also get to do an original, and I choose my song called "Trees." I wrote the song in New York City after a stressful relationship took a turn for the worse.  It was a direct plea for a second chance to renew our love.

Went in with the band and worked on the fans choice song "Everlong." At first I tried it full-on with the band, and I felt like I was getting lost in the chaos of the slamming drums and wailing guitars. I suggested that we try the song with two acoustic guitars (Jim and Rafael) and do some harmony vocals. Then we moved on to working on my original song "Trees"! We tried four or five subtly different versions. Nate and Jim actually came up with some ideas for the arrangement. I was not 100% sold on the final arrangement, and I felt a bit insecure about leaving not completely satisfied.

I worked on the songs for a few hours and felt better about it.

Gabrielle, a tattoo artist, showed up at the Mansion to give us some tattoos. Suzie went first and got a band around her arm. We had come up with the theme of all getting rings somewhere on our body. Jordis and I thought about our tattoo for weeks. Finally Jordis got the idea of getting it on our neck behind our ear, a semi private location on the body. I thought that it would be cool to have my first tattoo on my head. Felt like a bold move for a bold portion of my life. I definitely wanted to document this once in a life experience. I was swimming with Jordis one evening and decided that a circle/ring would be a powerful statement and reminder of our experience here. We are all forever bound together by this experience. I feel so lucky.

I laid down overlooking the LA skyline and the tattoo artist got to work. I was anticipating extreme, mind tingling pain, but it wasn't so terrible. It took 15 minutes, and I was marked for life.

I agree with pretty much everything that has been said. I love your style and voice like whoa! I think you should win yet at the same time I think you are way beyond INXS. I think you have the exposure to rock out hardcore style without them.

I am totally in love with "Trees". Such an amazing song. It makes me dance and sing really loud and off key. I would love to be privy to the lyrics =)

    You rock

    Hello Marty,
I am glad the world came to their senses this past week. Your talent doesn't justify a "trip to the low votes list". Your original, 'Trees' sounds more professional, catchy and punchy than most of the music played on the radio nowadays and your recognition should be in CD form for all the world to hear. I love the stage presence you exude; the mad-conductor; in eery fashion, is original and quite captivating. This, added to your energy and pungent vocal style is fascinating to watch each week and I'm getting addicted. Best wishes for a long and very famous musical career. Dave was right......you will have lots of offers of swinging in the trees!!!!!!
p.s. Are you a Tim Burton fan?

Marty, what I like about you most is your thoughtfulness and ability to articulate your thoughts about your performances in this competition. You are obviously thinking your way through this competition, as well as singing your way through it.

I'm routing for you, and have been since the beginning.

That having been said, I hope you don't become covered in tattoos. I was just commenting to my husband last night that I thought you were the only one in the competition without one. There are still those of us out there that admire rockers like you who can exude creativity, emotion, artistry and sex without piercings and tattoos.

Hey.... You were truely EXCELLENT last night...I was very impressed with "Trees"...never mind what INXS said!!!! Dave was right!!! I only have seen this as a competation between you and Mig from the second week!!! I think that if INXS is FINALLY going to get a harder edge...which they've needed...they should go with you. I mean, it all goes back to need you tonight....I own the cd, but I just kept waiting for the song to "kick in" and I think that you are the "KICK" that they need!!!! Mig, the last couple of weeks has been trying WAY too hard, and you just seem to make it look so easy, which it isn't. Good luck...I hope you win..for the fan's sake!!!! I'm so tired of bublegum rock...great taste, but looses it's flavor way to quickly!!!

    Marty,
I don't think there is any chance of you being in the bottom three based on Tuesday's performance. From reading other fan comments it is pretty safe to say we believe in you. I don't know if you've watched any of the shows on which you have been performing, but it seems your housemates believe in you too. what a voice! Keep on doing what you've been doing .It translates beautifully. Valerie

You are already a Superstar! I can't wait to see you perform every week! I loved your original song, Trees. It's already a smash and you don't even know it! I am going to throw your quote back to you, "You blow away all our expectations and are brilliant beyond anything on the radio today!" INXS would be so lucky to have you as the vehicle to give them a new rock edge!!! However, you are so much better than them! I loved your version of "Wish You Were Here." I'm downloading all of your songs! Keep on rockin!

I would just like to say that the song that you wrote "Trees" honestly gave me goosebumps. It takes a lot for a musician to make me feel one of their songs or any song for a matter of fact. The first time I heard you sing I knew you'd be one of my new favorites because of those goosebumps and evertime after that that I've heard you sing they're there. Anyway I hope my 2 hours of voting online keeps you out of the bottom three. ANyway rock on, you're UNREAL.

i cannot imagine you singing with inxs. maybe because im so used to seeing just you on centerstage.. i think they are so old to be in YOUR band marty!!!! i mean you can do better than stay with those old farts...
what i am saying is that you would completely express yourself without thinking if you are satisfying their needs or wants when it comes to your musical inclination. i am just afraid that if you go on thinking like this that i would lose the marty that i love. the marty that i know possesses such great things inside him. the marty that is unafraid to express himself and be himself. not thinking beforehand if people will like him, but just do his thing and have fun.. the contest sometimes drowns the initial character of the person who enters it. i hope that you grow as a person and maintain the goodness in you.. dont let anyone tell you what you should be singing or writing.. because you are so damn good an artist to be confined in such a prisoned world... love you marty...

Marty. You have one thing going for you, CREATIVITY.

You consistantly think out of the box and are in tune with the INXS band members. Judging raw ability MiG, is your main concern in this competition. If he survives tonight, I would watch out for him.

MiG needs to adapt his style or he is out (I'm not sure if he can provide the type of sound that INXS is looking for). Considering the warm reception INXS gave for his ballad, MiG's days may be numbered. As for you, it definately seems that your ability has improved (where MiG has plateaued). Nothing purifies better the fire, welcome to the trial by...

Where most of your competition has used the brute force approach, you have shown a creative resilance. If it means anything, you have not been on my list of favorites. Tree's has made me reconsider.

You were born to play the lead part in this play!

I watch now just to hear your creative intellect come thru each and every week. You have that intangible rock star quality with the creative genius to take you all the way. Trees is a very catchy tune that neither my wife nor I can't get out of our heads now and we're waiting for the single.

I'm really looking forward to your solo career once you tire of leading for INXS.

We want more of the one true MC! We hope you take it all and then some.

    Rock on Marty Casey!

WoW!!! Marty, you are sooooo talented. In a way, I'm hoping that you don't become the lead singer of INXS....you are WAY better than them. And you are definitely the best vocally. I could not get "Trees" out of my head for the life of me. Anyway, last night was the first night that I ever voted. But I felt that your performances really deserved all 50 of my votes!! I hope that you continue to rock out!!
