    September 12th

    Interview Clinic:
We went to the billiards room and got word of the order of the interviews:  JD, MiG, me and Suzie.  We were told that INXS would be firing off questions.  I thought about possible questions they would ask me and also had a couple of questions of my own for INXS.  When I walked in, Garry, Tim, Jon, Kirk and Andrew were seated across from me.  The conversation was very deeply vested in determining our true personalities.  INXS needs to get a feeling of who we are and if we have chemistry with the band.  I am really impressed with how comfortable INXS makes us all feel. They are so honest with us and keep us in tune with how they are feeling.  I was given my songs for the next performance when I left.  Tim handed me the envelope and told me they wanted me to do my original song "Trees" again.  Also in the envelope was the song "Creep" by Radiohead.  This is an amazing honor to get to sing a Radiohead song.  Radiohead is sacred to many people and I want to do the song justice.  I love the songs I get to sing this week.
I woke up around 9:00am and went for a 45 minute jog to clear my head. After my jog I had an hour vocal lesson with Roger Love. Over the past few weeks we have been developing my middle voice and it has strengthened my upper register. I need this part of my voice strong in order to handle some of INXS’s back catalogue of songs. After the voice lesson I rehearsed "Creep" and "Trees" with the house band. We did "Creep" 4 or 5 times and I tweaked the arrangement a bit. It is such a powerful tune and this will be the first time anyone has ever performed it on national television besides Radiohead themselves.
A few nights ago we went to the Greek Theatre to see Red Hot Chili Peppers and Parliament Funkadelic. We had back stage passes and good seats up front. Bootsy Collins was tearing it up on bass and the stage was filled with dancers. George Clinton from P-Funk was closing the night out on vocals. I was dancing with Suzie and MiG and singing along with the band. I was so surprised when Suzie gave me a Parrliment t-shirt she had bought at the concert. She bought one for all of us. She is such a sweetheart.
When we arrived home J.D. was still up. We had put all of the items from his room downstairs into the pink room as a prank. He laughed it off and then MiG went to his room and saw that J.D. put about 6 mattresses on top of his bed and it went all the way to the ceiling, we all laughed our butts off. These pranks are such a great way to shake off the stress. I went to bed at 1:00am and knew I had a big day to come. In the morning I warmed up with Roger Love, the vocal coach, and went to rehearsal. The longer we are here, the more there is to do. Busy- Busy- Busy. I like being busy because you don't overthink anything, you just react!

I thought the last line was:

With a knot tied tight to last forever.

I could be hearing it wrong though - too busy dancing around when its playing hehe.

    Go Marty!

    Hi Marty;
You are such a professional that I don't doubt no matter what happens you are going to have an amazing rock career. While I think you could totally front INXS, personally, I'd like to see you fronting your own band. I just think you'd got such a strong personality, voice, and musical vision of where you want to go that is seems so obvious you should be fronting your own band. So whether you become the lead singer for INXS, or whether you create your own band and go on tour as the opening act for them, I think the music public has much joy and excitement to see from you. (mmm, mmm, mmm -- love those vocals) I noted you are working with a vocal coach and you can tell how it has rounded out your voice. It's just wonderful to hear - good for you. And hearing Trees for a second time was excellent.
One last note, your vocals, especially when I first heard them, reminded me a lot of the lead singer from the Psychedelic Furs. I wonder if you have sung any of their music? Theirs is often a lovely mix of smooth ballad + rougher 'screaming' edge that you so love and do so well.
    Cheers.

    TREE
I don’t wanna go through this life
    Without you by my side
And i… got it all worked out
In my head, it’s all its got to be

It’ll you and me, up in the tree and the forest will give us the answer(not sure abt the last part)

    We…we’ll make believe
In a world we rule together
    We…. can built our dreams
With an up tied tie to last forever

it’ll you and me, up in the tree and the forest will give us the answer
it’ll be you and I, up in the Sky, it’s a combination for disaster

    Yeah yeah……
    We got one shot
So where do we go from here?

it’ll you and me, up in the trees and the forest will give us the answer
it’ll be you and I, up in the Sky, it’s a combination for disaster

I know there’s more for us in this life

A zillion luck to you man! i hope its you you lead the INXS....you ROCK and you;re the BEST!

I am so honored to be amongst these great fans that have voted for you. Awesome job!!!!!!!! I did not get to see your performance on Tuesday, but when I walked in the house @ 11:00 pm I got on the pc and started voting for you for an hour. I am so proud of you, I wish I was from chicago. Any-who! I knew you would be amongst the final three and you did great justice to the song"Creep". I'd rather see you in your own group because I dont want you to become pegion held in INXS....even though they are a great band it seem like you both are very agressive when it comes to the direction of the band. Yes I'm selfish I LOVE MY MARTY!!!! Good luck I hope your dream comes true. Mr. Lead Singer of INXS....YOUR THE BOMB!!! Stay cool and dont become bigger then your fans.

    Hey, everyone.

Does anyone get the impression that Marty has talent? I don't know if I'm alone here but the guy, to me anyway, oozes talent. I had a dream about the guy last night for goodness sake! Let me just say, in my dreams, he's very nice and really sexy! Tee hee.

Good freakin' job to all of us who voted for Marty's encore and WE KEPT HIM OUT OF THE BOTTOM THREE! Now it's up to him to wow INXS with his performances next week, which I know he will. He is so good and he deserves this!

Also, I can't help but notice that Marty is a wee bit of a hot-tottie!

Somebody took it with their cell phone, and it would be cool if they could email it to me. Thanks for all the great performances. Hope to hear "Trees" on the radio soon.

Do you ever get to listen to yourself and/or your band via headphones, maybe when you're recording?
I listened to your CDs using headphones last night while voting for you and eating chocolate truffles. It was quite the intense, hedonistic experience!!!
George Clinton is a Phenomenon, goes and goes!
Just Love what you've been doing for (and to) us, Marty!! Keep up the amazing shows, and come home safely to us in Illinois for your Birthday Super-celebration!

Best of Luck to you next week. Great encore tonight. I just love that song; apparently so do millions of others. You have stayed calm and collected, especially when answering questions from Dave and the guys. It shows grace under pressure. I am sure you will use that same grace to handle everything that will come at you after you bring it home next week on the finale. No doubts..And, hey Thank You, because you will be helping to bring back one of my favorite bands of all time, as you all move forward. I have high expectations of the album and tour and expect to hear "Trees" on it. Can you imagine? You are going to have so much fun on this new journey. God Speed.
