    August 20th

After the elimination show we had a party/banquet around the pool and got some cell phones from Verizon. We saw v-cast videos of our performances this week. Dave Navarro showed up and told us we all needed to have an original song ready for noon the following day. I had a few songs ready so I wasn't stressed. Deanna came in and asked us to help her with her song. Later, Jordis came in and needed help developing her song so we went and sat around the hot tub and figured out a pre-chorus, chorus, and bridge. I really dig all the songs we created this evening. It was a successful creative day. I passed out early from pure exhaustion.

The following morning I rearranged my original song “Trees,” and then helped Suzie with some guitar parts on her song. Then we found out the song list was up for the next show. Seven total songs. Five covers and two originals. Suzie decided we should choose out of a hat to see who does the originals because we all wanted to. Deanna and MiG got their names picked. I was kinda bummed I didn't get to do mine. I chose the song "I Alone" by Live and really would have been happy with any of the songs this week.

Woke- up and ran around the basketball courts for an hour and tried to work out the kinks in my delivery of “I Alone.”  I rehearsed with the band and it felt ok.  I need to figure out a way to make my song stand out in the midst of all these great songs like "Start Me Up" by the Stones and "Dream On" by Aerosmith .  I really love the Live tune because I grew-up with that song and it defined a whole summer of my life in the mid 90's.  I wanna get the crowd moshing.

I had a vocal lesson with Roger Love, a vocal coach, and he gave me some good pointers about singing this song.  Sometimes I incorporate advice and sometimes I don't.  Everything changes when you hit the stage, you forget everything and operate on autopilot.  You just do your thing and hope it works out.

Marty, you are a phenomenal performer. Your original song, "Trees", was one of the best songs I've heard on the show yet. If you don't get to be the lead singer of INXS, I will cry for a week! A month maybe! Please, don't give up your dream. You'd be cheating the world of an excellent performer. I hope to hear "Trees" on the radio soon.

Hey Marty, I just wanted to congradulate you on your beautiful song that you performed tonight called: " Trees!" I really liked that song so much that I can't get it out of my mind brother! And I was wanting to know if there would be anyway that you might be able to send me that song on a CD? I would be glad to pay you for it. I do not know how to get the song in good quality. I have watched the show ever since the beginning and I am so glad for the show, the band, and each and everyone of you for your hard work and everyone's awesome tallents! I feel confident that you will be INXS's next lead singer and I well know you will make them very proud of you! When the time comes when you and INXS goes on tour and comes to Houston Texas I am asking now if you could get me 4 back stage tickets? I have never been back stage for any band in my life but I would love to meet you and the entire INXS band, as it would truly be an honor. I own a family owned plumbing business and am 41, yet I played drums for over 15 years and thought I would do it for a life time, yet that was not the case.
    Keep up the good work!

    Hi Marty,

I think you are an amazing singer- you show a lot of depth and you are humble and willing to learn more. I do like your screaming too! Your Pink Floyd performance was so awesome! I replay it constantly! You know, I wish 'Nirvana" opened their eyes- you would be great as their lead singer too!!!
Best wishes and good luck with whatever you do!

Marty, so far you've managed to carry off everything they've put in your hands. It's been an impressive tally, especially your reworking of Britney Spears's annoying pop hit. My top vote would have been for an iconic song not on the list: Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing." Since I haven't that choice, it goes to "Everlong" because I believe you could hit it out of the park whether you sang it straight or reworked it. I'd actually like to see the latter--to find out just how you would arrange and interpret it.

"Mr. Brightside" rocked! And "Don't Change"--spectacular!

Encore performance? Oh, by all means, "Mr. Brightside"!

Well Marty, after Pink Floyd I don't know what to say. You are an awesome singer, the Live song was the tops. If there was a song I would like you to sing it would be "So Far Away" by Staind. I think you are a great today singer and have a sound that is right up there with Pearl Jam, Live, Creed, Nirvana etc. I think it would be crazy for INXS to let you go as you have a lot to offer. I have always been an INXS fan but they need to move forward with the times or be lost in the past.

    Marty,
I chose "Mr. Brightside". Your rendition of that song ripped my heart out. It haunted me for days. As much as I love the Killers' version, yours is better. I have a tendency to connect to songs emotionally to a high degree; so the heart and soul you pour into every song you do really speaks to me. Thank you for being on this show.

You and Suzie are my favorites on the show... I don't know if you get any say in the songs that are offered for the song selection, but I'd love to hear you do some Matthew Good, something like Apparitions or Hello Time bomb.
I think it would suit your look as well as showcase your voice.
    Good luck!

You were INCREDIBLE. It doesn't get
any better than Pink Floyd. You made
my heart stop. There is nothing you cannot sing. Pink Floyd has been my all time favorite since the 70's. I
had to remind myself to breathe, while listening. When you get back to
the Lovehammers, you are going to
rock our world. Make sure a stop is
    scheduled for Pennsylvania!

    Hi Marty
I wrote a letter to INXS but do not know who I can send it to. So I am going to try to blog it and hopefully you can pass it on to them. Your great and a big inspiration in a different way you have touched me with your performance of I Alone. Thank you so much for that performance.
    --------------------------------------------
    Dear INXS
I am not very good at these web chats, Blogs ect. but I needed to at least try to contact INXS anyway I could. My name is Tim and I live in New Jersey. My Husband Cliff and I
were together for 16 years. 3 years ago I became very Ill and after 2 years of living hell
I was diagnosed as having a rare but common disease called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy also known as RSD/CRPS. Well Cliff has been helping me through this very hard time in my life and has shown how much he loves me. WORDS COULD NOT EXPLAIN. Then 2 years ago he hurt his back in work and together we have been pulling each other thru. In October of 2004 I had a heart attack and Cliff was devastated but pulled me thru and promised never to leave my side. Well to make a long story short. Cliff had to have back surgery last March 2005. It was supposed to be a normal procedure so we were told. Cliff bled to death in the recovery room. It’s been 5 months since that horrible night and it has been so hard to reach down deep inside to get the strength that Cliff was able to pull out of me to go on. Now I am facing losing my home and with so many obstacles in my life it gets harder with every day, hour and minute with out him. The hardest part was losing Cliff my Husband, soul mate and caregiver and not having him beside me to help me through that worst day of my life. He was and still is my everything. The reason I am contacting you is to ask for a special request. I had the pleasure to see Marty perform “I Alone” which in my opinion was the best that I have seen anyone perform. Anyone! Even though it was hard to see through all of my tears as he performed I Alone, Marty’s silent intensity and inspiring will to succeed made it so real to me. The beauty and strength in Marty’s voice still echoes in my ears. He brought a power to that and every song that is rare and somewhat untamed and gave me the strength that only one gets from reaching deep inside. It was a very personal moment for me, if you could PLEASE ask Marty to perform it again in the memory of my husband Cliff. I would so love to hear and see him perform it again. If not, could it be possible to get a copy of it on DVD? Thank you for reading this letter. I wish INXS Luck on picking the right person for their band. You’re going to need it because everyone is awesome.
    Thanks Again
    Tim
